Annual Meeting Update!

The day began with a contingent of Players marching (in costume!) in the annual Wellesley Veterans Parade, showing the energy and enthusiasm that our members have for local community theatre. Several of our Annie orphans and their mascot Sandy stole the show as the group trooped down route 16. And there was an appearance by our very own chicken-man, Jim Pugh, who marched in the chicken suit most recently seen three years ago in our production of Tribute.

After the parade, the Players moved to the Bredens’ house for the annual meeting to wrap up the 2010-2011 season. We were excited to learn that Annie was among the Players’ most financially successful shows in the group’s history, and we recapped a very busy season of five productions.

The highlight of the day, though, was when longtime Player Rita Ford was surprised with a Spotlight award from the American Association of Community Theater. Only ten of these awards are given out each year in recognition of an individual’s tireless commitment to community theater, and Rita fit the bill perfectly. An AACT representative was on hand to present Rita with the recognition of her many years of service to the Players and to live theater. See our special spotlight article about the award and Rita’s contribution to the Players!

Many thanks go out to the behind-the-scenes heroes of the day: Darlene Howland, Rolly Wester, and Wil Breden for organizing our appearance in the parade, Wil and Ruth Breden for opening their home to us, and Diane Rothauser for coordinating the potluck event. Thanks to all who attended, and we’ll see you throughout this upcoming season!
