2009-2010 in Review

Wellesley Players productions are highly regarded among audiences, frequently earning accolades from the theatre community and beyond. The 2009-2010 season featured two extremely well-received productions:

Steel Magnolias, Wellesley’s entrant into the EMACT (Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres) annual festival was awarded the runner-up position at the competitive event, and qualified to progress to the regional level of the national theatrical tournament.

In addition to this honor, Steel Magnolias was presented the Philip Basset Ensemble Award, the June Henshaw Special Adjudicator’s Award for Excellence in Production Values, and individual awards for sound design, set design, and makeup design. Steel Magnolias’ cast and crew were nominated for best direction, best actress, and best supporting actress. Contact director Celia Couture if you have any interest in helping Steel Magnolias as they progress to the regional stage of the competition in Concord, New Hampshire.

Fiddler on the Roof, Wellesley’s spring musical, was nominated for thirteen awards at the annual EMACT DASH (Distinguished Achievements and Special Honors) festival. Shelley Wood won the Best Supporting Actress award for her portrayal of the Fiddler, and Eric Jacobsen won Best Lighting Design for his dynamic vision to support the cast in exhibiting an early 20th-century Ukranian village.

Cast, crew, and production team members all shared in the accolades offered to Fiddler on the Roof, which garnered DASH nominations for: Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Musical Direction, Best Ensemble, Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actress (two nominations), Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Set Dressing, Best Costume Design, Best Prop Coordination, and Best Stage Management.
